MEET REPORT

It was a beautiful day, sunny and warm. Change that to hot! Almost too hot, in fact, for hard running, although a number of competitors were still able to produce some really great times.
This park is not large or technically difficult enough for us to be able to offer our standard four courses. Instead, there were two separate ones, equal in their degree of technical challenge, and each measuring 3.6 km. Those doing the Long Event were first given the #1 map and, upon completing it, took a second map to finish the 7.2 km. About half did the Long. Total participation was 72, including 8 children under 10 years of age accompanying their parents.
Eight members of the ’08 CIOR
Canada Team were present, along with coaches Patrick Roy and Louise Oram.

Francis Falardeau ran the Long Event at a 5.23 min’s/km rate. Covering the two courses and 23 controls in just 37:40. Speedy, considering the heat and humidity! Close behind, in 2nd place, was Jessica Douglas, accompanied by Nick Fishbane. It was Jessica’s second event with us. Nick’s first. Their time: 0:39:01. Dmitri Golovanov finished 3rd (0:43:40) and Stephen Novosad 4th (0:45:32). Stephen had cycled to the meet from Val David and was continuing by bike to St. Bruno after the orienteering.
Christian Reber led those doing Course One (3.6 km) in 0:41:19. Laura Jarzembecki, a first-time participant, was second in 0:42:30 and Alex Cornellier finished third in 0:43:36.
