MEET REPORT
:
It was a gorgeous day. Sunny and warm. Participants had a choice to two course lengths. Course One was 3.76 km. Course Two comprised Course One which had to be completed first and then a second course of almost 4 km. Combined, Course Two covered 7.73 km.
There were 56 Starts. Total participation was 94, including 12 children under 10 years of age accompanying their parents.
Francis Falardeau found all
23 controls on Course Two in 43:22 – a pace of 5.6 minutes/km. Dmitri Golovanov was 2nd in 51:50. John Allen,
an officer in
Course One featured three women amongst the four fastest runners. Denise OBriain led the way, covering the 3.76 km in 33:10. Yee Fun Wong was 2nd in 36:06, Stephen Novosad, participating with his 5-year-old son, Tobin, was 3rd in 40:15 and Barbara Schumann with 9-year-old Andrea, was seconds behind in 40:58. Congratulations to all.
Control 10 caused a problem for several Orienteers. Six persons missed it and punched at another control that was situated on the other side of the grassy valley – just 60 meters away. It probably was a case of following the wrong person into the wrong control. On a whole, most competitors did a good job of orienteering in an area that was trickier than might be expected.

Timing was done by Christophe Deprez, Katel Deprez and Bruce Glen; Registration was by Gloria Charlow; Markers and punches were picked up at 2:30 by Stéphane Rouseau, Donald Watson, Bruce Glen, Christophe & Katel Deprez. Translation work was by Marie-Claude Belanger and Katel D. With all that help, all I had to do was hang a few markers and smile at people. Thanks all.
